Awake isn’t the same as available

Preventing sleep only keeps the screen on. Slack and Teams look at something else: how long it has been since you used the keyboard or mouse.

KeepGreen handles both separately. Prevent your computer from sleeping, reset the idle timer, or turn on both options at once.

Turn it on and get on with your day

On macOS, you’ll find it in the menu bar; on Windows, inside the hidden-icons panel opened from the arrow next to the clock. It is available in six languages and can open automatically when you sign in.

An honest note: we don’t track you means KeepGreen creates no accounts, sends no data and needs no connection. It does not mean it is invisible. It is an ordinary application: it shows up in the process list and in software inventories, so on a computer managed by your employer, the IT team can see it like any other program you install.

Choose your version

KeepGreen is available for macOS and Windows. Each version is native, lightweight, and built for its operating system.

Linux

It is on the roadmap, but there is no release date yet. It needs to work properly across different desktops before it is published.

Roadmap

Install KeepGreen on macOS

  1. Open the DMG and drag KeepGreen into the Applications folder.
  2. The first time you open it, macOS will say it cannot verify the app. Go to System Settings → Privacy & Security and select Open Anyway next to the KeepGreen notice.
  3. Turn on “Simulate activity” and grant the Accessibility permission. KeepGreen needs it to reset the idle timer.
  4. Look for the KeepGreen icon on the right side of the menu bar, at the top of the screen. Click it to open the controls.

Why does the warning appear? KeepGreen is not yet notarized by Apple. For the same reason, macOS may ask you to grant Accessibility permission again after an update.

You can verify the file is the original with shasum -a 256 KeepGreen.dmg and compare it against:

Install KeepGreen on Windows

  1. Download KeepGreen-windows-x64.exe and keep it in a folder you will not move. It is portable, so there is no installer.
  2. Windows may show “Windows protected your PC” because the file is unsigned. Select More info → Run anyway.
  3. Open it. It needs no administrator permission. If you enable “Open at login,” Windows will use the file’s current location.
  4. Select the ^ arrow next to the clock to open the hidden icons. You’ll find KeepGreen there; click its icon to open the controls.

You can verify the download with Get-FileHash .\KeepGreen-windows-x64.exe -Algorithm SHA256 and compare it with:
